All the engines have an eight-speed automatic transmission. All the trim levels have rear-wheel drive except the Trailhawk has one of two four-wheel drive systems. The two 4WD systems are the single speed, light duty Quadra-Trac I system and the Quadra-Trac II with low range gearing. The maximum towing capacity on the Grand Cherokee is the gas V6 can tow 6,200 pounds and the diesel V6 and V8 engine can tow up to 7,400 pounds.
