Ram designed the its new 2019 models for drivers who want zero compromises when it comes to performance and durability. From engine to suspension and everything in between, 2019 Ram HD trucks are built to finish the job and last for the long road.

New Powertrains

Ram trucks are known far and wide for offering some of the sturdiest engine options on the market. Now, you can get even more power in your Ram 2500 or Ram 3500. That's because the 2019 Ram HD lineup offers two new power plants.

The base engine for 2019 Ram HD models is a new 6.4-liter HEMI V8 engine that replaces the old 5.7-liter option. This new motor cranks out 410 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque. Mated to an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission, the 6.4-liter HEMI offers robust towing and payload capability. In fact, if you're looking for maximum payload capacity, you'll want to get a two-wheel drive Ram 3500 with dual rear wheels and the 6.4-liter HEMI. With that configuration, the truck can haul up to 7,680 pounds in its bed.

If you're looking for the best towing performance available, we recommend considering the newly revamped 6.7-liter Cummins Turbo Diesel inline-six engine. The new version of the legendary engine is now capable of producing up to 1,000 pound-feet of torque. With proper equipment, the 6.7-liter Cummins allows the Ram 3500 to tow up to 35,100 pounds. The Ram 2500 is no slouch, however, clocking its diesel towing capacity at 19,780 pounds.

Redesigned Chassis

For 2019, both the Ram 2500 and Ram 3500 get all-new chassis components. But don't worry -- they still use old-school, durable, body-on-frame construction.

The first major change is to the frame itself. A redesign gives the frame six cross members and uses 98.5 percent high-strength steel for reduced weight and improved durability. There are some important updates to the suspension setups as well. Both the Ram 2500 and Ram 3500 get stronger front and rear axles. Choose the Ram 2500 and you'll get a coil spring rear suspension setup. An air-coil system is also available. Choose the Ram 3500 and you'll get a rear leaf spring suspension setup with airbags to smooth out the ride.

Restyled Exterior

Though the 2019 Ram HD traces a clear lineage to older models in the looks department, its revised styling is all new. Ram engineers focused their efforts on improving aerodynamics in the new design -- a feat they claim to have managed fully. The new body also uses lightweight materials like aluminum in the hood to reduce overall weight. But it's not all technical reasoning for the redesign -- the 2019 Ram HD simply looks good. Its large grille, HD headlamps, and tastefully flared fenders signal a generational shift for Ram's heavy-duty trucks.

Modernized Interior

The new Ram HD takes steps forward in heavy-duty truck cabin design. Emphasizing style, utility, and comfort equally, the 2019 Ram HD cabin is a great place to spend time behind the wheel.

The 2019 Ram HD offers six trim levels ranging from utilitarian to luxurious in interior treatment. Not all trims get the same features, but a few available amenities stick out.

  • Limited and Laramie Longhorn models get 100 percent leather seats.
  • A new 12-inch center touchscreen display is larger than any other found in a heavy-duty truck.
  • Available Uconnect multimedia offers features like hands-free calling, Apple CarPlay, and more.
  • A bigger center console offers improved storage space in the front seating area.

Ram has also stated that the new 2500 and 3500 models will offer a wide array of safety technology features like brake assist and 360-degree surround view camera.
