What Has Changed for 2019?

For 2019, the Cherokee received a mid-cycle facelift. The revamped front fascia goes for a more conventional look with the headlamps located on either side of the iconic seven-slot grille. Cargo space has also been expanded with the 2019 update.

Capability for Trail and Road Alike

Whether you're aiming to get off the beaten path or simply make a run to the grocery store, the new Cherokee's performance is sure to please. It offers a combination of standard and available features to please all sorts of drivers.

First, you'll have to decide what you want under the hood:

  • The standard 2.4-Liter Tigershark Multiair 2 engine makes 180 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque. It's a top choice for drivers pursuing efficiency with its 31-mpg highway rating. A 2,000-pound tow rating means it has some utility as well.
  • If you're looking for more displacement, consider the 3.2-Liter Pentastar® V6. With 271 horsepower and 239 pound-feet of torque, it has plenty of accessible power. It's also rated for up to 4,500 pounds of towing when paired with the available Trailer Tow Prep Group.
  • The newest addition to the Cherokee's engine lineup is a 2.0-Liter Turbo unit producing a hearty 270 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. It's the best of both worlds with a 31-mpg highway rating and a 4,000-pound tow rating.

You may notice that the new Cherokee handles better than previous generations of the nameplate. That's because Jeep has moved on from the old live axle in favor of a more modern independent suspension setup. All four wheels are able to move with the road apart from the others. This results in a smoother ride and better cornering.

The new Cherokee wouldn't be a true Jeep without available four-wheel drive systems. Jeep Active Drive I works toward efficiency by disconnecting the rear axle drive until necessary. Jeep Active Drive 2 improves on the formula with low range and neutral modes. Jeep Active Drive Lock is the most robust four-wheel drive system available with a mechanical locking rear differential.

An Interior Equipped for the Journey

Jeep designed an interior for the new Cherokee that's fit to accommodate a variety of lifestyles. This well-rounded space is equally ready for comfort, convenience, utility, and more.

First off, it's practical. Open the doors and you'll be greeted to a spacious cabin with room for five adults to ride comfortably. Whether you're together for a jaunt across town or a trek across the country, the Cherokee is ready.

Packing up your luggage and gear is easy, as well. An available foot-activated power liftgate makes it easy to open up the cargo area while your hands are full. Standard 60/40 split folding rear seats give the Cherokee cargo flexibility that many drivers seek. You'll have up to 54.9 cubic feet of cargo space to work with. If you're loading gear with the rear seats in the upright position, you can use the seat sliding function to make more room for cargo or expand leg room for passengers. Plus, the standard hidden load floor in the rear cargo area means you can stow items with greater security. all of these practical features, you can also opt for a range of luxury amenities:

  • Commandview Dual-Pane Panoramic Sunroof
  • Perforated Leather Seats
  • Alpine Premium Audio System
  • Memory Preset Features
  • Wood and Aluminum Trim Pieces
  • Push Button Start
  • Etc...

The new Cherokee also takes care of drivers who like to stay connected. It comes with the widely lauded Uconnect multimedia interface, which offers access to wide variety of functions. Enter your destination into navigation, tune into your favorite music, and more. Plus, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility mean you can operate smartphone apps through the center display screen.

Active Safety Technologies

  • Say goodbye to blind spot ambiguity with the help of Blind Spot Monitoring. This system uses radar on the sides of the Cherokee to detect other vehicles. If there's a vehicle in your blind spot, you'll get an audible warning along with a visual signal on your side mirror.
  • Lanesense Lane Departure Warning is there to help when you accidentally drift into another lane. Sensors keep an eye on lane lines while you're cruising -- if you start to merge across lane lines without signaling, the system sand an alert and gently correct steering.
  • Full-Speed Forward Collision Warning with Active Brake Assist is an excellent collision mitigation system. Approach another object or vehicle too quickly and you'll get a warning. The system can also employ brakes automatically if needed. This can reduce speed before a collision.
  • Say you're backing out of a parking spot and you don't see a car passing behind you -- Rear Cross Path Detection has your back. Sensors will detect the vehicle and send you a warning.
