Few models conjure up an image of all-terrain excellence like the Jeep Wrangler. With styling inspired by military vehicles of yore and capability to match anything on the road, it's no wonder the nameplate has become legendary among the off-road enthusiast community.

The 2019 Jeep Wrangler is the second model year in the new JL generation. The Wrangler JL gives drivers the best capability yet, along with some excellent new modern touches to improve daily drivability and convenience.

Two Body Styles, Each Offering Old-School Appeal

The 2019 Jeep Wrangler is available in two body styles. If you're looking for the traditional Wrangler experience, you can find it in the two-door. Its shorter wheelbase makes for improved maneuverability in off-road applications, but diminishes towing capacity, cargo space, and passenger volume. If you want a Wrangler with broader capability, we recommend the four-door model. You'll have room for five passengers, impressive cargo space, and better towing capacity.

Expanded Powertrain Options http://images.dealer.com/autodata/us/640/2018/USC80JES011B0/USC80JES011B01350.jpg

Many Jeep Wrangler models of the past have offered just a single engine option. The new 2019 Wrangler JL takes a different route, offering drivers a choice between two available powertrains.

The first option is a familiar one to many Jeep enthusiasts. The 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 has been a trusty companion to Wrangler drivers for years, pulling them through thick and thin with naturally-aspirated grunt. The V6 makes a sturdy 285 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. It allows for up to 3,500 pounds of towing in four-door models and 2,000 pounds of towing in two-door models.

The new engine option is a 2.0-liter turbocharged unit. It's a compact powerplant, but it creates some big numbers. Forced induction and eTorque mild hybrid technology give the 2.0-liter engine 270 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque to work with. Like the V6, the 2.0-liter engine can handle up to 3,500 pounds of towing in four-door models and 2,000 pounds of towing in two-door models.

You'll also be able to pick between two transmission options. The standard option is a six-speed manual. You'll be able to navigate your own gears with full control. If you want a simpler driving experience, you can choose the available eight-speed automatic transmission.

Excellent All-Terrain Equipment

If there's anything the Jeep Wrangler is known for, it's off-road capability. The 2019 model continues that tradition with its no-nonsense design and array of helpful features.

Durable off-road ability is baked right into the design of the 2019 Wrangler. In keeping with its predecessors, the new Wrangler uses a body-on-frame design. Underneath, you'll find a solid axle both at the front and at the back. Jeep built out the rest of the Wrangler from this simple, reliable platform.

It's important to note that every new Wrangler comes equipped with four-wheel drive. However, not all are the same. Jeep offers three different four-wheel drive systems for the new Wrangler.

Selec-Trac: This system allows you to select an automatic mode that will actively engage and disengage four-wheel drive according to conditions. You'll be able to focus on driving and let your Wrangler do the rest.

Command-Trac: Activate the Command-Trac four-wheel drive system and its NV241 transfer case will engage, allowing you to tackle tough challenges on any trail. Its low range mode makes it well suited for rock crawling.

Rock-Trac: This most robust four-wheel drive system comes standard on the Wrangler Rubicon. Electronically locking front and rear differentials give this system an extra edge, and a sway bar disconnect affords the Rubicon extra articulation.

Civilized Interior Space

The 2019 Wrangler is a rugged vehicle, but its interior offers some respite from the trails. You can get yours with premium leather trim, dual-zone climate control, and much more. Available colored trim pieces add extra personality to the Wrangler's interior. Four-door Wrangler models even have room for up to five passengers, plus considerable cargo space.

Top-Notch Technology

Don't be fooled by the Wrangler's seemingly simple appearance -- inside you can get advanced technology that makes driving easier, safer, and more convenient.

For starters, the 2019 Wrangler offers the popular Uconnect system. Through a center touchscreen display, you can control a wide variety of media functions. Best of all, Uconnect is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The new Wrangler also has available active safety technology. Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross Path Protection lets you know when other cars are in low visibility areas. The available Parkview Rear Back Up Camera improves visibility and makes it easier to squeeze into parking spots.
